Questions & Answers
The questions people ask me most before they start. Tap one to read the answer.
Getting Started
I've never lifted weights. Is this for me?
Yes. Most of my clients start from zero. The first two weeks are an introduction: we check your posture and movement, set your goals and set up your apps.
Then we build the basics step by step, with core work and machines long before any barbell.
If you have a health condition, an injury or pain, I recommend seeing a doctor before you start.
Will lifting make me bulky?
No. Muscle grows slowly, over months of consistent training and eating enough, and women have far less of the hormones that drive big muscle growth.
What you get is a firmer, more shaped body, better posture and more energy.
Want to focus on an area, like lifting your glutes or toning your back? Of course, I build it into your program.
And more muscle raises your metabolism, so your body burns more calories even at rest. No more endless cardio or starving yourself to stay in shape.
Do I need a gym?
A gym helps, especially later for barbell lifts. But you can start at home with a few dumbbells and bands: we set up your space together in the first two weeks.
For travel and busy weeks, I make you a home program.
At Every Stage of Life
Am I too old to start in my 40s or 50s?
Not at all. We lose muscle and bone as we age, so starting now is one of the best things you can do for your health: a body that's stronger, steadier and less tired.
The Lite app has big text and big buttons, so it's easy even if you don't love apps. Over 60? We also check your balance.
Can I start after having a baby?
Yes, once your doctor has cleared you to exercise. We rebuild gently from Pilates basics: breathing, posture and core.
If you're breastfeeding, tell me: I won't cut your food hard.
My cycle changes my energy and appetite.
In our sessions we keep an eye on how your cycle affects your energy, appetite and PMS together. If your symptoms are hard on you, I recommend seeing a doctor.
On hard days it's fine to adjust your training and food. Helping you keep going without guilt is part of my job.
Training Online
How do online sessions work?
Once a week we meet for 60 minutes on Google Meet: I check your form on camera, adjust your program and answer your questions.
Between sessions you log your workouts and meals in the apps, and you can message me any day. I reply within 24 hours, and on the next business day at weekends.
Between sessions you can also send me videos of your exercises, and I'll send you feedback on your form.
Can you coach me if I don't live in Japan?
Yes. Online coaching works wherever you live: we pick a session time that suits your time zone.
What if I'm busy or travelling?
Your program fits your week, starting from two workouts. If you travel, I send you a holiday program.
Which plan should I choose: 3, 6 or 12 months?
I recommend 6 months or more. Visible changes usually start after about four months, so with 6 months you see them and learn how to keep them.
3 months builds good form, the basics of nutrition and the habit of training. With 12 months we go through every stage, until you can run your own training and nutrition. Longer plans also come with a discount.
Not sure? We can choose the right plan for you together in the free call.
Can I cancel or get a refund?
A plan isn't a pack of sessions: it's my support across your whole plan period, from your weekly sessions to daily chat, video feedback, your programs and your weekly analysis.
So once your plan starts, it can't be cancelled or refunded. If you skip a session, it isn't made up later, but your reports, analysis and chat keep coming all the same. Not sure yet? Ask me anything in the free call first.
Results and Food
When will I see results?
You'll feel it first: within a few weeks, workouts feel easier, your posture improves and you have more energy.
Visible changes usually start in the second stage, after about four months, once training is a habit. Everyone is different, so I show you your progress in the data every week and you never have to guess.
Can I lose fat and build muscle at the same time?
Yes. It's called body recomposition: your weight may barely move, but you lose fat, gain muscle and your shape changes.
Studies show it happens most easily for beginners and people coming back to training.
The keys are the base of the training and nutrition pyramids: train consistently, add weight or reps little by little, eat plenty of protein (I set the amount for you), sleep well, and keep calories neither too high nor too low.
I'm training hard, but my weight isn't going down.
You log your weight every day, but it's just data for me to analyze, and I never judge your progress by it alone. Muscle is denser than fat: the same kilo takes up less space, so you can look leaner at the same weight.
Your weight also moves 1–2 kg from day to day with water, salt, food and your cycle.
So I also look at your waist and hips, your photos and how much you lift. The same weight with a smaller waist is progress.
Whether your weight goes up or down, don't worry about it alone: leave it to me. I read your data and adjust your food or training when it's needed.
Do I have to diet or count calories?
No strict diets and no skipped meals. In the first stage you learn the basics, like protein, fiber and portions, without counting anything.
Calorie and macro tracking comes later, when you're ready. And 20% of what you eat can still be eating out and treats.
Your targets are just a guide for your tracking, not strict rules or a medical prescription.
Crash diets end in rebound weight gain. You learn the habits and the know-how to manage your food yourself, so the results last after the program ends.
Food in Japan confuses me. Can you help?
Yes. I'll show you the best picks at the konbini, the supermarket and restaurants, and give you recipes with ingredients you can find here.
Can't read the label? The Macros app reads nutrition labels and barcodes with your camera.
